We’re looking for a junior or middleweight graphic designer to join our multidisciplinary design team in our London studio. You will get hands on experience working at every stage of our projects, as we deliver innovative wayfinding and information systems for the world’s leading cities, organisations, and institutions.
We’re looking for conceptual thinkers with a strong graphic/typographic focus, who have the discipline and ambition to turn their concepts into refined design solutions that complement our wayfinding information systems.
Prior wayfinding experience is not required for this role; we are looking for outstanding graphic designers who have an eagerness to apply their skills to wayfinding contexts in the built environment, print, and digital applications.
As one of the world’s leading wayfinding consultancies, our work frequently intersects with branding, particularly in its environmental form. We work to develop, extend and in some cases define new visual identities for our clients across previously unexplored applications and environments. Our work marries structured information design solutions with strong graphic and product concepts, to push the boundaries of environmental graphic design, and deliver truly integrated wayfinding design systems. You will become an integral part of this process and our London team.
Skills and responsibilities
Successful candidates will be involved in the delivery of all aspects of our long-term projects, tackling various aspects of user research, wayfinding strategy, concept design, detailed design, and artworking phases.
We expect designers to be hard working, highly motivated and passionate individuals, with an ambition and drive to deliver projects of the highest quality. Our designers work seamlessly not just within the design team and creative directors, but with Applied’s project directors, project managers, and information planners.
You will have a portfolio that demonstrates strong graphic and typographic skills, and your dedication to the craft of your final designs. At Applied we like design thinkers who champion the meaningful as much as they do the beautiful. You will be able to talk articulately about your decision making and the developmental work behind your designs. As well as being highly collaborative, you will be proactive in approach, and efficient at working on your own initiative.
You’ll also be proficient and up-to-date with the latest software required for the role, i.e. Adobe Creative Suite and any other graphic software, as well as being competent with presentation, word processing and spreadsheet tools etc.
