US Business Development Manager


Location: New York + some travel

Reporting to: Global Commercial Director

The primary purpose of this role is to provide support to the Global Commercial Director in terms of generating new business activity. Assisting in wider responsibilities for the company’s internal communications, external marketing, and PR.  The right candidate will be highly self-motivated, work well under pressure, think out-of-the-box and will be able to easily initiate relaxed but informative conversations with individuals of all backgrounds and disciplines.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare proposals and presentations
  • Coordinate and assist in the completion of RFP / tender responses
  • Manage various process flows with other company groups
  • Help to manage CRM databases and sales reporting
  • Conduct new business research;  Compile and prepare reports and briefing papers
  • Advise upon and coordinate resources for attending events and conferences
  • Have oversight of all team diaries
  • Organize meetings and appointments when appropriate; provide briefing packs and manage follow-up correspondence
  • Hold responsibility for project resourcing and booking travel and accommodation 
  • Support, develop and maintain client relationships
  • Represent the company at conferences, trade shows, and networking events
  • Advise and track expenditures to help Commercial Director manage department budgets
  • Participate in and enable communication and information flow between all members of the sales and marketing team, wider company, and commercial director
  • Brief and manage external specialist consultants/resources when required. 
  • Write copy for sales and marketing materials, including proposals
  • Send out letters and emails to identified prospects.  

Experience

  • BA/BS degree preferred and 5+ years of professional work experience in sales, marketing, business development from any commercial industry
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. You should be a great writer, speaker, and listener.
  • Must have a proven track record in business development, working in a small-medium sized business, in a field related to design, planning, or architecture
  • Experience working in an international setting and ability to travel
  • Experience conducting client presentations
  • Experience conducting user research and writing research reports
  • Experience writing proposals in response to public tenders
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment

 Skills

  • Fluency in written and spoken English; other languages a plus.
  • Working knowledge of presentation programs such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Google slides
  • Working knowledge of CRM programs 
  • Curious, thoughtful and engaged across the board
  • Analytical thinker 
  • Comfortable with public speaking
